The Silence
- Steve Cruz -

Do I feel angry? At times I do. Do I feel sorrow? I have more in the last 24 hours than I have in the last 33 years.

Like many of us Americans, waking up the day after the Terror, we all felt as if it were just like any other day, until the chilling reality set in like a slap in the face that the terrible events really did occur the day before. As much as we wanted to think it will all go back to the way it was before 8:45 Tuesday morning, we feel something deeply different and unnerving.

On my way to work, as I drove south along A1A, I was listening to public radio and some of the accounts of the victims and victims families. As I listened to interview with a woman who had not heard from her husband who worked in one of the World Trade Center towers. In her voice, you could hear the concern and pain as she wishes she could just be with her loved one in the rumble to hold his hand. Listening to this I began to cry deep and painful tears, feeling for just a moment a fraction of her pain.

There are so many questions which all of us have about this event. I do believe that the people responsible for this terrible nightmare should be found and brought to justice. Although, I definitely do not want any other innocent lives taken here or in other suspected countries by retaliatory actions by us. What good would come from avenging our loses on other innocent foreigners?

As the bodies and remains and hopefully survivors are excavated, I can only imagine the anticipation the families whom loved ones are missing are feeling. Questions to God on why such a large magnitude of lose of life had to happen had to be asked. What satan was behind this and in Jesus' teaching about "turning the other cheek" is tested to the core of some people. For some revenge will be sweet to others revenge will be bitter. For now all we can do is wait to see what the next 24 hours will bring. All I can say is, if you have children, family and friends give them a hug and kiss and tell them you love them whenever you ever have to leave their company.

God bless the people who have died. God bless the people who have died trying to save others lives. God bless the actions which will be taken. God bless the world and all it problems and for all of us here, God bless America.
